On July 26 stabbed two persons at the Anna Prayer Counseling and Retreat Center in Urbana, approximately 50 miles west of Baltimore, near Sugarloaf Mountain. After the Maryland church stabbing a man was killed and his wife injured.
The incident occurred as the service was wrapping up. According to Chuck Jenkins from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office the suspect was identified as a 30-year-old man coming from northern Virginia who is of Asian descent. The Anna Prayer Mountain Church is a Korean center for prayer. The man seems to have lived in the church for a week before the stabbing took place.
According to the sheriff the man himself was the one who called 911 saying that he was waiting to be arrested. He did not resist when police arrived and took him into custody. It seems that the deputies were called to the scene after the suspect complained about the food.
Jenkins said that the scene was bloody and gruesome and that the slashing and stab injuries were quite serious. The man died at the scene, while the woman was transported to a trauma center in Baltimore. According to Jenkins her condition is severe but stable. At this point it is not clear why the suspect did such a thing. Sherriff Jenkins said he wishes he knew the reason, but does not at this point.
There was a pretty gruesome scene, pretty bloody. The stab and slashing injuries were pretty severe.”
The Maryland church stabbing suspect cooperated when he was questioned. They had some problems with the language, but a police officer from the Montgomery County police acted as an interpreter and helped the investigators.
Law enforcement were searching for the knife which the suspect used, but at 11 p.m. on Sunday they had not find any yet. The police announced that there is no immediate threat for the community since the man was taken into custody. The sheriff posted on Twitter regarding this. Before this he also posted a tweet announcing that the case is under investigation:
“Stabbing on Peters Rd in Urbana under investigation currently. Media staging area Urbana park n ride Rt 80 @ I 270”
