The study is published in journal Climate Change Responses.
According to climate expert Petra Tschakert, a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), he said the current target would not be sufficient for saving species who are succumbing to climate change
This was the key subject at the Lima Conference, where the experts debated over the consequences of maintaining the temperature target at 2 degree Celsius.
According to Tscakert the target should be reduced from 2 to 1.5 degree Celsius.
He says that this is very important to protect the coral reefs, to maintain ice in the Polar Regions during summer.
The 1.5 degree target is supported by many climate experts around the globe.
The change in the target might be release during the Paris climate negotiations in December 2015.
It is believed that the 1.5 target is also arbitrary like the 2 degree target, so we have to wait to see the changes it brings.
