As little as 10 grams of peanuts or any tree nut of your choice may help you to keep safe from many threatening diseases ranging from cancer to dementia.
The research paper that came to this conclusion was conducted by a team of researchers from Maastricht University in the Netherlands. Their findings were based on extensive data that they have collected from 120,000 men and women, aged 55 to 69 that have taken their survey.
The team of researchers inquired about peanut and tree nuts intake, peanut butter intake, and many details regarding the frequency of the intake and the quantity consumed. The information that they have collected dates back to 1986 and with such subject base proportions, their data bares great weight for the scientific community.
They found that consuming as little as 10 grams of peanut or any type of tree nuts, such as walnuts, hazelnuts or cashews, on a daily basis can lead to a much healthier and longer life.
The benefits that these nuts offer include decreased risk for developing cancer, neruodegenerative diseases, diabetes, heart disease or even diseases of the respiratory system.
This happens because a long term supply of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, minerals and antioxidants, that nuts are very rich in, can keep a wide variety of tissues, like brain and heart tissue, strong, healthy and able to fight the strains that it might have to face due to daily traumatic experiences like stress and fatigue.
The study revealed that unfortunately, these benefits cannot be obtained though the daily consumption of peanut butter as well, as it seems that the production process seems to lessen the benefit properties of the ingredients.
Furthermore, the intake of raw nuts or ones that have been very little exposed to cooking processes seems to have the most powerful effects. Raw nuts are widely available at healthy food oriented retailers and some types can even be found in regular supermarkets.
The cost of following this simple plan for a healthier tomorrow will not even impose significant costs, as the Dutch research team has proven that increasing the daily intake quantity of nuts does not in fact imply that the effects are heightened.
There is a threshold of these effects that is achieved through the intake of at least 10 grams a day that cannot be surpassed by raising this quantity. The researched team has even conducted a meta-analysis, in order to ensure their findings.
This means that they have studied other research papers that have been conducted on this particular subject, so as to corroborate their conclusions regarding the effects of a quantity of nuts higher than 10 grams.
The study was published in the International Journal of Epidemiology and its findings are of great importance for the day to day life of people, because they propose a very simple and tasty means of building a strong defense against a long list of serious and even life-threatening diseases.
the saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” has been proven to be obsolete by the wonders of peanuts. The up to date version should be “A handful of nuts a day keep the doctor away”.
