A couple from Fayetteville, Arkansas was recently taken into custody for torturing an 8-year-old child. The Arkansas couple allegedly starved the child on purpose and would chain the child to the furniture while eating in the kitchen.
Arkansas Couple Denies Child Torture Allegations
Melissa Miranda, 33, and Josue Tovias, 28, were recently arrested and charged with multiple counts of child abuse after the authorities learned that the Arkansas couple has been torturing an 8-year-old infant.
The authorities have been alerted by concerned teachers from the Owl Creek School, who noticed that the child was behaving strangely during class and lunch break. One of the teachers told the law enforcement officers that the child was complaining about several occasions of pains in his legs.
Also, over the past months, the 8-year-old lost a lot of weight, and on one occasion, the child seemed to have back bleeding. Furthermore, during lunch break, the child would ask for extra food and started crying when he was refused.
The authorities were called, and a child abuse investigation ensued. After talking to the 8-year-old, the law enforcement officers went to his home where they’ve arrested the Arkansas couple.
During their police interview, the Arkansas couple admitted to disciplining the child. Also, Miranda told the authorities that she would often handcuff the child to a piece of furniture and left him there for hours at an end.
The authorities also managed to explain the child’s odd lunchbreak behavior after interviewing the Arkansas couple. They would seldom feed the child, and every time they did it, they would offer him morsels.
Miranda also admitted to chaining the child to furniture and left him there to play or to read a book while the couple was eating in the kitchen. The Arkansas couple was charged with secondary domestic battery, kidnapping, first-degree terroristic threats and endangering the welfare of a minor.
