The Florida authorities have recently been confronted with what appears to be the strangest yet considered the case of car theft in history. Allegedly, a man wearing a white tank top and baggy pants entered a gas station, handed the clerk an infant, and drove off with the car he recently stole.
Car Thief Realizes There’s a Baby in Stolen Car
On Tuesday, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies wrote on the department’s official Twitter page that the authorities are currently on the lookout for a suspect who stole a vehicle with a baby inside. The message also reveals that the man allegedly dropped off the crying infant to a nearby gas station before making tracks.
Michelle Ashby, co-owner of the restaurant inside the Palm Beach gas station was there when the incident occurred. According to the woman, sometimes around noon, a black Kia Rio pulled in front of the gas station.
Seconds later, an African-American individual exited the vehicle, carrying something that appeared to be a baby car seat. The man entered the gas station and approached Ashby is a visible state of panic. The woman said that the individual handed her the baby car with an infant in it while screaming “Take the baby! Take the baby!”.
After Ashby took the baby seat, the man turned around, ran to the car, started the engine and vanished. Following the incident, the gas station restaurant co-owner called the authorities and told the emergency dispatcher all about her run-in with the panicked car thief.
The authorities set several roadblocks in the Palm Beach area, in an attempt to catch the car thief. According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the individual must have stolen the car from another gas station while the owner was still inside.
The suspect has been described as being in his 20s or 30s, African-American, and, at the time of the theft, he wore a white tank top and dark-colored pants.
