Given all the recent events that took place in Overwatch, many fans wonder if there is a possibility that a new hero might appear in the game. Also, the game already appears to be adapting to the lore bits, since changes in the map are already available in the public test region.
New heroes are always welcome, especially in multiplayer games. Thus, players can test different gameplays and styles. Only thinking about this might get the players excited, so Blizzard has started teasing them and now is offering interactive hints and clues. They have learnt from the experience with the alternate reality game Sombra to put all the information together.
Thus, Blizzard are currently teasing a new hero that might reach Overwatch next week. The players have suspected until now that the new hero would be Doomfist, the gauntlet wielder. However, Jeff Kaplan, the director of the game, wrote a post on the official forums made the players direct their speculations in another direction.
Also, Blizzard released an “interview” with a brilliant young inventor, Efi Oladele, 11. After they switched their speculations between several heroes, a Reddit user, KalebAT, wondered if Blizzard might release two heroes, after all.
The user claimed that Efi might be involved in the creation of Athena, the announcer of the game and Winston’s assistant. After a fight that would cause the gauntlet to end up in the hands of the villains, he suggests that Winston would turn to Efi and ask him to give Athena a body.
A previous leak hinted at Anchora, a spider hero with a West African accent. Also, Overwatch’s first animated short showed a spider with an “A” engraved on it, similar to Athena’s logo. Also, the artificial intelligence might appear in a different body under a different concept art.
To link these all together, Athena might have some sort of a West African accent every time she makes an announcement. Also, Blizzard initially wanted to make her a playable hero, so the prospect of the artificial intelligence to come to life in the game is not that far off.
The hints are all there, and fans love creating scenarios and hoping that Blizzard has many surprises for them. For now, they will have to wait for the official announcement regarding Overwatch that will come soon.
