After more than two years, college friend of Dzhorkhar Tsarnaev gets incarnated for obstructing investigation.
Azamat Tazhayakov has been declared guilty for knowingly hiding Tsarnaev’s backpack that contained empty firework shells from his University dorm. Tazhayakov said he felt sickened by the thought to bomb and condemn Tsarnaev for his actions. He is sentenced for three and a half years of prison.
Friday afternoon, Robel Phillipos, another college friend of Tsarnaev will be prosecuted for withholding information during FBI investigation. Michael Dukakis, former govern of Massachusetts and a family friend of Phillipos, testifies for Phillipos during the trials. In a letter he said to the judge that punishing Phillipos by sending him to jail seems like a bit too much to the governor.
Another known friend has been incarcerated for six years in prison last Tuesday, for not taking necessary actions that could have sided police investigation. He was convicted for not calling the police when re recognized Tsarnaev photos on public media.
Dias Kadyrbayev, during the investigation removed some items from Tsarnaev’s dorm room that could have been valuable for the investigation. Dias after recognizing Tsarnaev’s photos did this, thus being charged for which he pleaded guilty last year.
The friend of the brothers, Khairullozhom Matanov was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for obstructing the investigation. He has falsified records and has provided wrong information to FBI. After the bombing, Matanov saw Tamerlan at leat twice, but still didn’t take any action. He removed various videos and documents from his personal computer to hide his connection with the brothers.
The prosecutors, though agreeing that none of the friends that has been prosecuted knew plans of the brothers bombing, they still knowingly hid information that could have aided investigation. While Tamerlan Tsarnaev died at a shootout, the younger Tsarnaev has been tried and found guilty, for which the federal jury condemned him to death.
