Wegmans, a popular grocery store known for its cult following, is set to close its Natick store location this summer due to non-traditional location struggles.
The New England division Human Resources Director of Wegmans, Brien MacKendrick, said, “Unfortunately, with this non-traditional location we are unable to attract enough customers for our business model to work.” However, the company states they are committed to continuing to serve its Natick customers through its e-commerce offerings and other area stores.
In addition to Wegmans, Giant Eagle will also be closing its West Newton location in Pennsylvania this summer due to retirement. Mike and Maryann Bingey, the store's owners, said in a statement, “We have greatly appreciated the support of the West Newton community for these past 35 years, and we thank our team members for their commitment to helping us meet the needs of our customers.”
Meanwhile, Natural Grocers announced they will be closing two of their North Texas locations, Fort Worth-North and Coppell, due to lower-performing sales. Customers at the affected stores can take advantage of the closing sale with a 25% discount on all products. However, the company states they will still remain committed to serving the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex through their neighboring stores.
These closures are only a few among other big-box retailers that have shut down their operations recently. Keep reading to find out which grocery chains, including Wegmans, are closing stores soon.
