600 cannabis plants have been discovered at a day care in West Haven, Connecticut. The city day care remained without a license after it refused to allow inspectors in the backyard. The police later found some 600 marijuana plants. It was growing in an area enclosed with a fence, behind the property on Norfolk Street.
Sgt. Davit Tammaro, police spokesman sais that state inspectors were at the facility on Friday, when they discovered the plants. They called the police from the Street Crime Unit. The police officers noticed the plants in the backyard area, enclosed by a new fence.
According to Tammaro, the cannabis was around 6 to 10 feet tall. The facility was shut down and remained without a license. Tammaro pointed out that arrests will be made , however, he did not name any suspects.
Maggie Adair, spokeswoman for the Office of Early Childhood declared that the revoking of the day care’s license was not connected to the investigation taking place.
Inspectors confirmed they came across minor violations and came up with a corrective plan to fix them. During a follow-up visit on Friday, they stumbled upon the high fences with a locked gate in the backyard. Because inspectors have to look at the whole property during their visit, they asked day care employees to unlock the backyard.
After they refused, licensing inspectors became worried and called the police.
The services provider will be able to contest the decision in September. If the day care does not stop giving services, that’s a violation and it will be punished with a 100 dollar fine per day.
Greg Smith, a Norfolk Street inhabitant for ten years, says everyone was quite shocked by the news. The street is quiet. Most of the people are working and the kids know each other. These types of things do not happen on their street.
Nobody had suspected anything about the day care, before the strange discovery.
Now, neighbors are shocked because they don’t believe the West Haven day care is fit for their children.
The 600 cannabis plants found in the backyard could be sold on the street for more than one million dollars – according to police investigators.
