A 60-year-old daycare owner was arrested on Tuesday in Pickens, North Carolina for allegedly spanking a 4-year-old with a wooden paddle. According to the probable cause affidavit, the owner of the daycare center did not inform the parents of the establishment’s punitive measures.
Daycare Owner Could Have Punished Other Children With Wooden Paddle
Angel Taylor, the mother of the four-year-old boy who has been allegedly beaten by Margaret Sue Tennis, the owner of Carousel of Learning daycare center, declared that her son’s buttocks were bright read the day she took him home.
Also, Mrs. Taylor told the authorities that she learned about Tennis’ disciplinary methods from her son.
Following the woman’s complaint, the daycare worker was taken into custody and charged with battery and third-degree assault.
So far, the investigation revealed that the 60-year-old woman reportedly used a wooden paddle to spank Mrs. Taylor’s child and possibly other infants in her care.
While searching a house search warrant, the authorities discovered the object mentioned by the boy’s mother. Apparently, it is a long wooden stick with polka dots on it and the name ‘Bob’ engraved on its handle.
During her bond hearing on Tuesday, the daycare owner denied all charges. More than that, Tennis’ husband declared that the woman never spanked the children in her care and that ‘Bob’ is actually a paint mixer stick and nothing more.
After the hearing, the 60-year-old South Carolina daycare owner was released on a personal recognizance bond.
The Department of Social Services will also investigate Mrs. Taylor’s claims.
Mrs. Tennis couldn’t be reached for comments. Her husband told a reported that the hearing and charges saddened his wife who has a medical condition.
The Carousel of Learning, Tennis’ establishment, has been temporarily closed down.
