The new world record holder of the smallest dog
Pearl, the pocket Chihuahua, has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's smallest dog, dethroning Miracle Milly, another Chihuahua who measured 9.65 centimeters and died in 2020. Born in the United States on September 1 of that year, Pearl is now two and a half years old.
A tiny size for an exceptional feat
The little Pearl is only 9.14 centimeters high and has a length of 12.7 centimeters, about the size of a dollar bill. Its weight is 553 grams, according to data provided by the Guinness Book of World Records organization, which annually publishes world records for human achievements and the natural world.
Small as a ball, but well-fed
Vanesa Semler, Pearl's owner, said in a conversation with the Guinness World Records organizers, “We are lucky to have her with us and to have this unique opportunity to break our own record and share this incredible news with the world. Pearl feeds on “high quality food, like chicken and salmon,” said Semler, who added that because of her size, she can take her anywhere without a problem. “She's as small as a ball and a little taller than a tea cup,” she said.
An international celebrity thanks to her small size
Pearl's popularity allowed her to travel to other countries and participate in various dog shows and television programs, such as Lo Show Dei Record, in Milan (Italy), where she was able to show her docile and peaceful temperament. Chihuahua dogs are native to Mexico and usually weigh between 1 and 3 kilograms, which makes Pearl's size all the more exceptional.
