After long months of waiting, we finally have a first glimpse of the Pixel Fold, the foldable phone from Google. According to rumors, it would have been presented at the I/O developer conference in May 2023. But it's thanks to a brief video leaked by insider Kuba Wojciechowski that we finally got to see it. The Verge confirmed that it was indeed the Pixel Fold.
A design similar to the Oppo Find N2
The design of the Pixel Fold is eerily similar to the renders that have been leaked recently. However, what stands out most in the video is its rather square profile. Google's foldable phone is inspired by the Oppo Find N2, with thick, unconventional edges on the bottom of the foldable panel inside. The hinge design isn't anything special either, but unfortunately we can't see the back of the phone in its closed state.
Specifications that live up to our expectations
The Pixel Fold will feature a 5.8-inch Full HD+ OLED external display, while the foldable inner panel will measure 7.6 inches wide and offer a resolution of 2208 x 1840 pixels. Both displays will offer a refresh rate of 120 Hz. At the heart of the phone is Google's Tensor G2 SoC, with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a Titan M-series chip for security.
The Pixel Fold also features a 48-megapixel main camera, a 10.8-megapixel telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and a 10.8-megapixel camera for ultra-wide shots. The external selfie camera is based on a 9.5-megapixel sensor, while the one above the internal folding screen is an 8-megapixel camera.
Availability and price
According to a report from CNBC, the Pixel Fold is expected to be introduced at Google's annual developer conference on May 10. It will then be available for sale at a price of $1,799. For the top-of-the-line 512GB version, you'll have to shell out $1,919.
So the Pixel Fold is shaping up to be one of the best foldable smartphones on the market. If you are looking for a quality phone with an original design and innovative features, the Pixel Fold will be the perfect choice. Keep an eye out for its imminent release!
