Remember Flappy Bird, that cute game that looked so easy and then turned out to be the most difficult and infuriating game ever? Dong Nguyen, the developer of Flappy Bird, is now back with a new mobile game that promises to challenge even the most skilled players.
Nguyen started a collaboration with the Japanese studio Obokaidem for the development of the new game, called “Ninja Spinki Challenges”. The game is now available for iOS on the Apple’s App Store and for Android on Google Play.
Obokaidem declared that they had complete control of the game design, but it took them seven redesigns until Nguyen was happy with the project. Norio Nakayama, Obokaidem’s executive producer, said that it took them around a year and a half to finish the game.
The initial plan was that the game should be released in December. However, when rumors spread of Nguyen’s new project, several pirated versions swarmed over the app stores. The official release was delayed until all the fake versions were taken down, so that the players would which is the real game.
Ninja Spinki Challenges has the same 8-bit appearance typical for Nguyen, but you shouldn’t be trick into thinking that this one is easier. The game features six different mini-games that have Ninja Spinki as protagonist. You surely know Ninja Spinki from Swing Copters, Nguyen’s previous game.
Players need to react quickly, have dexterity and, generally, are required the same skills that they needed to complete Flappy Bird. They need to tap on the screen or the display, depending on the mini-game. The initial goal for each mini-game is to resist 10 seconds, which is quite a challenge since you have such small room to operate and it is easy to lose control of your character.
The longer the players survive, the more modes they can unlock. Some modes challenge them to resist for a longer period of time and they can also unlock more stages and icons. The game is available for free, but it is supported by advertisements. For example, if the timer runs out, they will be able to continue playing only after watching a sponsored video.
Ninja Spinki Challenges follows the same formula as Flappy Bird and Obokaidem hope to become at least as popular.
