The health of the Singapore’s founding Prime Minister Lee Kaun Yew is further deteriorating this weekend. Thousands of Singaporeans has visited the Singapore General Hospital and Tanjong Pagar community center to leave gifts, emotional messages and flowers.
Tanjong Pagar constituency is held by Lee since 1955.
Lee has been hospitalized since February and is suffering from severe pneumonia. In the past week his conditions worsened and this Sunday his condition is very critical. Government is giving time to time updates.
Singapore became republic in 1965.
Lee led the nation from 1959 to 1990 and he is credited for transforming the small trading country into one of the wealthy financial hub with almost zero corruption and low crime.
Lee is the first and the longest serving prime minister.
The current prime minister is Lee Hsein Loong, Lee’s son
Lee handed down his post to Goh Chok Tong in 1990 but he held the cabinet level role. He finally left the cabinet in May 2011 but in the same year he got re-elected unopposed to his parliamentary seat and remains the member.
Government is giving continuous updates on lee’s health and on February 28 a statement was released that lee is recovering. This was the last news of lee getting any better.
It was on Wednesday when the government has said that Lee’s condition is deteriorating and after a day it was informed that due to an infection the health is further worsening.
