The main aim of the project is to build powerful batteries which will provide power need for the flying drones, wearable devices, electric cars, as the current lithium-ion batteries and alkaline batteries are unable to provide such high power.
And long lasting battery which the researchers are working for long time is not the purpose of this research.
IBM and Tesla are also researching on batteries for the same purpose.
The batteries like the solid-state, thin-film are thinner and offer better battery life than the present batteries but they are quite expensive. May be a new technology will make it much cheaper and accessible to everyone in future.
It is also considered that these batteries are also perfect for Google Glass which is perfect for video as it consumes lot of power.
This can also be used for Google’s glucose monitoring contact lens since there isn’t flammable acidic juice at the core which is present in today’s batteries.
Wearable devices, implanted devices will be a part of life in future so no one would like a leaky battery, so this is one thing Google is focusing on.
Lithium batteries freeze at high temperature so Google X engineers are coating them with blends of graphite and wax in a way that makes the heat diffuse more evenly.
Google’s other secret research lab project once scrapped a project that would improve mobile battery life by five times.
Therefore it is not easy to build a battery with better life, computers are getting faster but the batteries are at a slower pace.
