Overnight stays in Spanish hotel establishments reached 44 million last July, an increase of 2.2% over the same month in 2023. In the last year, prices in this type of accommodation have grown by more than 7%, with the highest increase in the Community of Madrid, reports EP.
The data of the Hotel Tourism Situation released this Friday by the National Statistics Institute (INE) show that Spanish hotels invoiced last July 140.5 euros on average per occupied room, 8% more than in the same month of the previous year.
In July, overnight stays in hotel establishments by residents in Spain fell by 3.4%, while those of non-residents grew by 5.2%.
During the first seven months of 2024 hotel overnight stays increased by 6.3%. compared to the same period of the previous year. Those of travelers residing in Spain remained unchanged, while those of non-residents grew by 9.8%.
Andalusia, Catalonia and Valencia were the main destinations of travelers resident in Spain in July, with 23.4%, 14.6% and 13.2% of total overnight stays, respectively.
Meanwhile, the main destinations for non-residents were the Balearic Islands, Catalonia and the Canary Islands, with 34.4%, 21.1% and 18.1% of the total, respectively.
By tourist areas, Mallorca registered the highest number of overnight stays, with more than 8.2 million. The tourist destinations with the highest number of overnight stays were Barcelona, Madrid and Calvià.
Travelers from the United Kingdom and Germany accounted for 24.8% and 16%, respectively, of the total number of overnight stays by non-residents in July. Overnight stays by travelers from France, the Netherlands and Italy (the following source markets) accounted for 8.4%, 5.5% and 4.5% of the total, respectively.
70.5% of the bedplaces were occupied.
Data from the National Institute of Statistics show that 70.5% of the vacancies offered were filled in July, with an annual increase of 1%. The weekend occupancy rate for bedplaces rose by 2.1% to 75.3%.
The Balearic Islands had the highest occupancy rate by bedplaces during July (87.6%). By tourist areas, Palma Calvià reached the highest occupancy rate by bedplaces (90%) and also had the highest weekend occupancy rate (89.5%).
The tourist spot with the highest occupancy rate by bedplaces and on weekends was Es Mercadal, with 96.7% and 98.8%, respectively.
New price increase
The Hotel Price Index (HPI) rose 7.2%. in July with respect to the same month in 2023. By autonomous communities and cities, the highest increase was recorded in Comunidad de Madrid (13.4%). The autonomous city of Melilla registered the lowest (-2.3%).
By category, the highest price increase occurred in one gold star establishments (9.9%).
Average hotel revenue per occupied room (ADR) was €140.5 in July, up 8% compared to the same month in 2023.
Average daily revenue per available room (RevPAR), which is conditioned by the occupancy of these establishments, reached 106.8 euros, up 10.1%, according to the statistical institute.
By category, the ADR was 317.6 euros for five-star hotels, 146.8 euros for four-star hotels and 119.1 euros for three-star hotels. RevPAR for these same categories was €234.2, €121.1 and €93.5, respectively.
The tourist spot with the highest ADR and RevPAR was Marbella, with €304.3 and €240, respectively.
