Jared Leto and Margot Robbie will soon return to the roles of the Joker and Harley Quinn in a movie that is currently in development at Warner Brothers. Leto and Robbie will be reprising their characters from last year’s hit, Suicide Squad.
The movie will be part of the DC expanding universe with Glenn Ficarra and John Requa currently in final negotiations to direct. Ficarra and Requa also directed the film Crazy,Stupid,Love and the NBC drama This is Us.
The Joker and Harley Quinn were the most popular villains from Suicide Squad and fans are thrilled that there will be a movie about the two.
When asked to describe the currently untitled movie, one source referred to it as a
“criminal love story.”
Another described it as
“When Harry Met Sally On Benzedrine.”
This film will follow after the Suicide squad sequel. It’s also been revealed that there will be a separate movie about the Joker which will not star Leto, that will be directed by Todd Philips, who directed “the Hangover”. Some fans have gone online to complain that we might wind up with Joker over exposure.
DC is working hard to compete against the successful movies based on the Marvel universe. Additional films are in development that have related story lines that fall outside of the established Superman and Batman stories. This summer’s hit film, “Wonder Woman” is an example. There will also be another movie, “The Batman” which will not star Ben Affleck.
The DC universe will continue its saga on November 17 with the release of Justice League, directed by Zack Snyder. The film will start Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Caville as Superman, and Ben Affleck as Batman. It will also introduce Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and Ezra Miller as the Flash.
