The unidentified man was neutralized after an apparent suicide at the edge of the National Mall, the Capitol police said in an email.
According to Capital Police Chief Dine, the man had a sign taped to his hand which said something about social injustice. He had a rolling suitcase, backpack that called for bomb investigation.
The exact language is not revealed by the officers but some witnesses said that the sign said something about taxation.
Some of the witnesses said, when the bomb squad was searching the suitcase they found clothes.
Natalie one of the witness said that they were having a casual visit around the area at the moment.
They said that there was no strip up but the situation was calm and they remained there visiting the area and doing their work.
Another witness said that he thought that something would happen but he was also sure that the authorities will handle any situation.
There were Hundreds of people who had to wait at restaurants and shops; the authority has arranged another way out to the Library of Congress. They were told to walk on the sidewalk opposite to the Capitol.
The place was filled with tourists when this incident occurred.
The man fired just once, and no other injuries have been reported.
The authorities are investigating the death.
