Nintendo Switch is the latest devices that Nintendo released. This device is a great one because it has interesting feature and the price is ok. Nintendo Switch announced that it is not necessary to use official Nintendo microSD cards.
This is a bit unusual because other companies, like Samsung, stated that their devices only work with official microSD cards from the same company. Despite the fact that Nintendo mentioned that they still developed special microSD cards for their new devices.
The price of these Nintendo microSD cards is a lot bigger than “normal” cards. In order to make these cards, Nintendo partnered with HORI, a manufacturer from Japan. They released two models. One has 32GB and the other has 16GB.
Both of the models are more expensive than normal cards. The 32GB is notably more expensive than the normal 32GB microSD cards. The official Nintendo 32GB microSD card is notably more expensive than other microSD cards.
In comparison, the Nintendo card costs about $70. On Amazon a card costs around $23. If you don’t mind having slower read or write speed you can find cheaper cards at less than $10 on Amazon. This means that you have the same amount of storage but with $60 less.
If Nintendo doesn’t announce that Nintendo Switch users need to have an official microSD card their memory cards won’t sell too well. This is because of their price. Despite the fact that they offer the same amount of storage they are more expensive.
This also raises a question: Why are they making expensive cards if they are not required? These sales of these microSD cards will be interesting to watch. Maybe there will be users who believe that it is better to have storage cards that are from the same company as the device but there are only a few people who believe that.
All of the other users will buy the less expensive microSD cards. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens to these cards. Despite the fact that they won’t buy the official cards users will still need a card if they want more games on Nintendo Switch.
What is your opinion about these microSD cards? Why did Nintendo make them so expensive?
