The American restaurant chain Olive Garden has recently announced that they are making the Pasta Pass available again, starting Thursday, September 17.
Pasta Pass allows people to eat as much pasta as they want for seven weeks. The representatives of the company have announced that they will start making these coupons available for families as well.
An announcement was made on their website that 1,000 regular Pasta Passes will be sold for $100 each, and other 1,000 passes will be available for families for $300 each. The latter allows you to take up to three other people.
The Pasta Passes were a huge success last year, when all of them were sold in less than an hour. Most of all, they represented a very important marketing strategy for Olive Garden. This was a huge step forward for the company, since customers seemed to be fewer and fewer by the year.
The Pasta Pass lets customers choose from a variety of sauces and pasta dishes, which they are free to mix and match as they like. A gluten-free pasta dish is also available starting this year. In addition to the free pasta dishes, they can also drink as many soft beverages as they want. However, the passes must always be used by the same person, as it is not transferable.
Olive Garden also started another promotion called the Never Ending Pasta Bowl, which allows people to eat as much pasta as they want in a single visit, paying only $ 9,99.
According to the executive vice president of the company, Jose Duenas, the fact that people bought so many Pasta Passes last year means that they still love the dishes the restaurants produce and they are more than happy to go back for more.
While health experts might be worried that the super offer actually fuels Americans’ tendency to eat very large amounts of food, Duenas said that it is merely “a manifestation of Italian generosity”.
It remains uncertain how advantageous the offer is for cardholders, given the fact that it is unlikely the people who buy Pasta Passes will go eat at Olive Garden absolutely every day. Last year, it was reported that the cardholders came in about twice a week, on average.
The customers can start using the passes starting October 5th until November 22nd at any of the company’s 800 U.S. locations.
According to economists, the sales are going up for the Olive Garden chain, but this might be due to the increase in prices and menu mix, given the fact that fewer customer visits were reported last year.
