Polaroid made an announcement at the IFA, Berlin (the famous consumer electronics fair) their new Snap digital camera, which works without ink.
The President and CEO of Polaroid, Scott Hardy, reported that
“the idea of one snap, one print, are concepts that Polaroid developed over 75 years ago and that have long been engrained in the brand’s identity.”
The most intriguing news is that the digital camera uses ZINK-developed technology which implies an ink free technique. The technology is dubbed Zero Ink Printing. The ZINK technology features patented ZINK paper, enhanced with magenta, yellow and cyan dye crystals. Moreover, the paper has a polymer overcoat.
You won’t have to worry about ink cartridges, as the printed photos are dry because there’s no ink in the process.
Furthermore, the ZINK paper is heated up once the camera starts printing, thus resulting the vivid colored photo. Due to its adhesive properties, the photos can be used as stickers.
The Polaroid Snap is a 10 MP camera and features an incorporated printer, which enables the above-mentioned Zero Ink Printing Technology. However, it seems you cannot zoom in, as its focal length is fixed. Its optical viewfinder compensates for not having a screen. This optical viewfinder is designed to pop-up on top.
But, besides these minor inconveniences, it displays a photo booth mode, which allows you to shoot 6 pictures in about 10 seconds, whereas its timer can be set also be set to 10 seconds.
Those who would purchase the gadget will be able to print 2×3-inch photos once the picture is taken. Moreover, you could still take pictures while the camera is printing, thanks to its enhanced printing capabilities.
This new addition in the ranks of Polaroid cameras features a MicroSD as well, with a capacity of approximately 32 gigabytes. Therefore, you photos can easily be saved, and then uploaded to your desktop, or shared on your preferred social network.
Concerning its design and color range, it will be available in white, black and vintage Polaroid. Moreover, the camera’s minimalist design encompasses the efforts made by the design firm responsible for adjusting the Polaroid Cube, Polaroid Zip and Polaroid Cube+. The design company is called Ammunition.
The new, pocket-size gadget is very user-friendly, and it’s available at a decent price – $99.
