Prey for the Gods was one of the most anticipated games which received Kickstarter funding. However, they disappeared for a while, only to come back with unexpected changes. It seems like Bethesda required them to change the name of the game due to some trademark disputes.
No Matter Studios, the developers of the game, announced that Pray for the Gods will now bear the name Praey for the Gods. This occurred as Bethesda fought for the trademark of their title Prey, and required the developers to change the name of their project. No Matter Studios gave up without a fight, and chose to make a slight change in the title.
No Matter Studios came to an agreement with Bethesda
The developers could have maintained the name if they chose to fight for it legally. However, trademark issues usually take quite a long time in court, and they also require a serious amount of money. Therefore, they decided not to spend their Kickstarter funds on a trial and give up in front of Bethesda.
In fact, they took a wise decision, as they succeeded in coming to an agreement with Bethesda. The bigger company allowed them to use the name Praey for the Gods. Despite sounding odd, it might fit their initial concept. At the beginning, the game was supposed to be called Præy for the Gods, but Bethesda blocked this title as well.
Prey for the Gods attracted fans with a clever trailer
We cannot help but be relieved that No Matter Studios were able to settle the debate with Bethesda, although it is a pity they could not keep their name. Therefore, we will be able to enjoy the exciting new game, which charmed everybody with a provoking trailer full of impressive combat scenes.
The game brings reminiscences of Shadow of the Colossus, but it looks like an upgraded version with impressive aerial battle scenes and graphics based on concepts of physics. Currently, No Matter Studios are working on a beta version for the game.
