Good news expects the fans of the Shovel Knight universe. The game has a few surprises ready for the treasure gathering enthusiasts that cannot wait for the incoming changes. One of the surprises includes two expansions on the game.
Shovel Knight is a side-scrolling game developed by Yacht Club Games, with graphics inspired by 8-bit games. The game features the Shovel Knight, who gathers treasure and fights the members of the Order of No Quarter. The Knight’s main tool is the shovel, which he uses for attacks or to dig up treasures.
The most important change is that of the name. Shovel Knight is now Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. The change was necessary since the new game will contain the original campaign, renamed now as Shovel of Hope, and two more expansions: Plague of Shadows, the free DLC campaign released in September 2015, and the new campaign Specter of Torment.
The renaming was also necessary since the developer meant to release each expansion as a separate game. They declared that the expansions were initially meant as free updates for the gamers, but the game has got too big. They want to keep releasing free contents for the players, but at the same time they want to feature the expansions and new campaigns as good as possible.
They also think that the split of the game into three will bring a much better exposure. If they kept them only as expansions, some players might not even come to know of their existence. They want to offer everybody the chance to enjoy all campaigns, get a broader understanding of the game universe or even let the players the freedom to choose whatever campaign suits them best.
The developers announced the preparations for a “Battle Mode” available only locally, and also an incoming fourth campaign that will be part of the Treasure Trove. The other surprise features local co-op available for PC for free.
All Shovel Knight owners will be upgraded to the Treasure Trove edition. For those that are interested in purchasing the game, they will receive the Treasure Trove pack for $15. However, be quick, since the prices are going up this spring.
