Google is now an integrated part of the internet, but the company has also brought to life several notable inventions, that will take our generation into the future. After creating the self-driving car and the Google Glass, the company is literally aiming for the moon in its new project, called Sidewalk Labs.
This new Google-based company will use sophisticated technological information provided by satellites all the way on the moon, in order to study cities in great detail. Based on their data, they intend to develop detailed plans that will make these cities better, in terms of efficiency.
And this comprises a lot of layers, such as cost of living, efficiency of electricity distribution or transportation. In fact, at the moment, the exact intentions of Sidewalk Labs are unknown to the general public, as the project is still under development, but they have made it clear that it would be big.
The creator of Sidewalk Labs and the executive of the company is Daniel Doctoroff, former CEO of Bloomberg and deputy mayor of New York. This is a resume that speaks for itself in regards to the the proportions that Sidewalk Labs will have.
Doctoroff said that their project will not remain within the limits of New York, but it will expand to several big cities. Essentially, Sidewalk Labs will optimize the way a city functions, by looking at it from both a far and from as close. And this is only the information they released so far, since the true potential of this company is yet to be revealed.
Google’s CEO, Larry Page seems to believe in Sidewalk Labs as well, as the expectations that he has for the project is to manage to reduce pollution in major cites, shorten the length of the most crowded commutes and greatly improve conditions for bicyclists, so as some of the traffic issues be resolved by replacing cars with bikes.
Google is really a company that has started small, as a web search engine, and that has reached ground-breaking proportions with projects like Google X, that focuses on research and that has come up with so many innovative inventions meant to improve the lives of people, such as the special spoon that helps patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease feed themselves or bionic limbs for amputees.
Google X is offering funding and resources for companies that have good ideas, so as to make the world a better place, one invention at the time. The main trait of Google projects is innovation, as the company believes in putting high-tech modern day technology to good use.
Sidewalk Labs will be an infrastructure program of great proportions, that will improve the day to day functioning of big cities around the country and maybe even around the world. It is up to Daniel Doctoroff to take Google to the moon and back with all the data they need to make cities reach optimum efficiency.
