People dream about having the right body to wear skinny jeans. They look stunning on slender women and have been in the trend for quite a while.
However, if you don’t own a pair of skinny jeans because they don’t look good on you, you should not be too devastated.
Maybe you never thought that an item of clothing that is so popular worldwide could harm you in any way, but according to some doctors from Australia, they are quite unhealthy and can hurt the person wearing them without him or her realizing it.
A particular case caught the doctors’ attention and prompted them to publish a report in the online Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry on Monday, June 22nd. A woman from Australia was taken to the hospital after she was found lying outside her home, unable to move her legs.
When she got to the hospital, the doctors had to cut off her tight jeans because her legs were so swollen it was impossible to remove them the normal way. She experienced muscle damage and nerve blockages and she was put on a drip to recover.
She was monitored for four days before she was able to walk normally. According to her, she had worn the skinny jeans for a whole day, lifting an carrying various items as she helped one of her friends move to another house.
She said she did feel that her pants grew tight as she carried on with her work. Afterwards, while going home, she simply tripped and was unable to stand up.
The doctors who treated her at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia were quite amazed that the damage to her muscles and nerves was so great.
According to one of them, Dr. Thomas Kimber, who is also the lead author of the article, tight denims can affect the nerves in the area around and below the knees, which reduces the blood flow to the calf muscles. This, combined with the physical effort the woman made, caused the damage to her feet.
The problem is that skinny jeans do not stretch much and do not allow too much freedom of movement for the person’s leg. Other stretchy tight pants would not cause this kind of damage.
Thus, we should make sure we wear our skinny jeans only occasionally, especially if they are too tight, and we avoid carrying heavy items while having them on.
