Skype Translator is about to break the language barrier between people, because it will translate not only written messages, but audio video calls as well.
The new addition to the Skype’s superpowers had begun its test phase in December 2014 and it is continuously being improved, so that it can be ready by the time Microsoft releases Windows 10. It is the technical community’s guess that Skype’s new translation feature will be launched alongside Windows 10.
This means that Android, Mac and iOS users will have to wait a little bit more until they can freely communicate with their foreign friends.
It remains to be seen when the feature will be released to the entire public, as the current test version is invitation-based only, but it is clear that it will prove helpful to very many people because it is extremely easy to use.
After you’ve installed the translate update for Skype, all you have to do is select the friend you need the translation for, check that your translation plug-in is turned on and then chose the language that your friend speaks.
Then, once the audio video conversation starts, Skype will include a written translation in a side menu, that will be provided in a matter of seconds. It is going to be like having actual subtitles to your conversation to your foreign friend.
You have to be careful to speak very clearly though, as errors are inevitable in this case. It will improve the situation if you use a headset with a good microphone . if, or most likely when Skype makes a mistake, you can simply correct it through a written message, as you can also see your own part of the conversation.
The languages that Skype Translator provides real-time translation for video calls in are English, Italian, Spanish and Mandarin. The list is expected to be extended as soon as possible, so that it includes more basic languages that are widely used internationally. In its current state, it is very possible that the French might not like the Skype translation feature very much
The translation plug-in also features translation for written messages, and this comes in 50 language options. Therefore, it can be employed in pretty much any conversation between foreigners, considering that at least one of them knows either English, Italian, Spanish or Mandarin.
Skype Translator shows great promise and it is expected to increase the number of Skype users out there through the immense accessibility it conveys to people coming from different countries who need to communicate with each other.
