Digital assistants have been around for many months now. More companies are developing their own smart assistant and some of them are integrating them to Smart Homes. Some of the most known smart assistants are Alexa, Cortana, and Siri.
Despite the fact that these smart home voice assistants are becoming more and more popular, a lot of people are still considering them a novelty. This is because they either don’t use them or they use only a few skills.
A new report shows that despite being so popular, many people use smart home voice assistants to set the clock or to play a song. People tend to use only the basic skill although these voice assistants have a lot to offer.
Another thing that shows that people are still not used to these assistants is the ratings. Users have rated only some basic skills. Only one or two users rated the superior skills. The report shows that 69% of the skills that Alexa has, for instance, are not rated.
Numbers show that people who use these voice assistants don’t use them currently. Maybe they enter to find out what they can do and then they don’t use them anymore. The problem here is that more and more companies are producing voice assistants and devices that work with them and people don’t use them as the companies predicted.
Although products like Echo speakers and Google Home were a success at the beginning fewer people are buying and using them. Those who use them are still not used to their skills and they stop using them. Another factor that could influence the fact that fewer people are using these devices is that these smart home voice assistants are considered luxury devices.
All of these factors can set barriers making people stop buying these smart home voice assistants because they don’t see the point in buying them. The biggest barrier is still considered to be the price of these smart home voice assistants and devices.
Maybe in the near future, more people will test these products and see that they need them. We’ll just have to wait and see how things work out for the smart home devices and assistants.
