Private spaceflight firm SpaceX is launching its sixth cargo mission to International Space Station.
This the second attempt to land the Falcon 9 rocket safely on the boat after it is launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida, but this time also it failed like in the first attempt, it came down but landed abruptly on the boat.
“Rocket landed on drone ship, but too hard for survival,” Elon Musk , the founder of SpaceX tweeted.
The launch of the rocket was successful but the landing failed.
Some rockets are used only for one flight, when their run out of fuel they fell down in the ocean, but SpaceX wants to reuse the rocket and wants to add legs to the rocket so that it can land on the boat and this helps in reusing the rocket.
Rocket returning to Earth and safely touching down on earth could save the cost of the spacecraft by a factor of 100.
The Falcon rocket is launched at 4:10 pm ET.
The rocket left Earth’s atmosphere and then flipped upside down and steered itself back towards the ground. To land on the boat it has used the side fins but hit the boat with too much speed.
This launch was the third attempt to successfully land the system.
The first was in January, where the rocket hit the boat too fast and in the wrong angle which has destroyed its legs and exploded.
The second attempt was in February which failed due to rough seas.
The third attempt was having less probability nearly 50 percent chances of success because of the bad weather.
The launch was even delayed because of it.
The Dragon capsule with the Falcon is in en route to ISS which is carrying payload of more than 1900 kilograms of food, equipment, experiments, it also includes espresso machine designed to work in space and synthetic muscle that may someday help in building humanoid robots and better prosthetic limbs. It will arrive at ISS on Friday.
