Starlink’s new offer for residents in France
If the cost of the hardware kit was a barrier preventing you from trying Starlink in France, that is no longer an issue. The satellite internet provider is aggressively targeting customers with a strategic move to attract new clients: offering the hardware kit, router, and installation for free.
This announcement has surfaced on Starlink’s French website, highlighting a pivotal change in their service model. They are now advertising, “No upfront hardware cost. Free professional installation.” Those interested in this proposal will no longer need to spend hundreds of euros for the required equipment upfront.
From now on, new customers in France can receive the antenna kit and router at no charge, along with professional installation while only being responsible for the monthly service fee. That said, there are a few vital details to keep in mind.
First and foremost, the complimentary hardware and installation apply exclusively to residential plans. This means options such as the Residential Lite (€29 per month) and Residential (€40 per month) packages. The mobile plans are not included in this offer; thus, payments for equipment will still be necessary for those services. However, the real catch lies elsewhere: the commitment period.
Starlink offers its hardware and installation for free in France in exchange for a commitment
If you’re keen on using Starlink without footing the bill for the antenna kit, router, and installation, you must commit to using the service for at least 12 months. This commitment is the company’s way of covering the costs associated with providing hardware without additional fees.
“In selected areas, new Starlink customers can receive a Starlink kit at no charge when they commit to 12 months of residential service. The 12-month period starts from the activation date following the trial period. […] This promotion is available exclusively for new customers or existing users who sign up for a new service line,” the company’s support page states, which includes France among the countries eligible for this option.
Of course, this commitment might or might not be a concern depending on the user’s situation. If you own your home and have no plans to relocate in the near future, having Starlink for a minimum of 12 months likely won’t be a significant issue. As long as the satellite internet service meets your expectations and performs adequately, the commitment feels less daunting.
However, the scenario shifts for those residing in rental properties. Starlink mentions that different conditions apply regarding usage fees if there are changes in address or service cancellations.
A notable advantage of Starlink in the past has been the ability to cancel and resume service when needed without many complications. This flexibility changes with the new residential plans in France that come with free hardware and installation. Each individual will have to weigh the pros and cons to determine if this offer aligns with their needs. Those looking to join Starlink and receive the hardware and professional installation free will only have to pay a €19 shipping fee upfront.
