Amazon is hiring for its amazing PC game

June 7, 2015 By Dave Smith Leave a Comment

game-developersAmazon Game Studios is now developing ambitious new video games not just to stream them but to make them for the personal computer or PC which employs the latest technology.

Amazon wants everyone to know that they are hiring, though for exactly what, no one is sure. All we know is that it’s based in Seattle, WA.

In a sponsored job posting that is published in Gamasutra, Amazon Game Studios implores those interested in being the tip of the spear in the game design and technology to contact them, because the company is currently looking for individuals who are driven to make the best games the gaming industry has ever produced or seen.

The Amazon’s team is already consisting of former designers and developers who have worked on hit titles including World of Warcraft, Portal, BioShock, Halo, Half Life, Middle-earth: Shadows of Mordor and many more.

The goal of the company is to employ latest technology such as Twitch and the AWS cloud, to radically evolve gameplay.

The company believes that the games have just begun to scratch the surface in what the company refers to as their power to unite players.

In August, 2014, the company Amazon has acquired Twitch for $970 million in an all-cash deal which let the gaming industry know that the e-commerce giant is not only serious about gaming, but also willing to invest quite seriously in it.

Twitch is integrated into the new PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One Console systems, has become the streaming platform of choice as it continues to stream billions of minutes of gameplay to millions of visitors.

Existing team members at Amazon Game Studios also include Far Cry 2 director Clint Hocking, Portal designer Kim Swift, and Left 4 Dead 2 project lead Tom Leonard.

There are 26 posts for different positions, should you be in the Seattle area and need an awesome job. You can find job postings here at GamaSutra- Amazon Jobs, and good luck.

Amazon removes ‘try-before-you-buy’ AppStore TestDrive service

Online retail giant Amazon on Wednesday quietly scrapped its ‘try-before-you-buy’ AppStore TestDrive facility from its forum, stopping customers from previewing their favorite apps via the functionality before making a final purchase.

In a blog post dated April 16, Amazon said that it had “decommissioned” the ‘AppStore TestDrive’ facility a day before making announcement regarding axing of the service.

Amazon’s Corey Badcock said that more than 16,000 applications had been launched through TestDrive.

“With the growing use of “free to play” business models, we have seen a significant drop in customers using TestDrive, and effective 15th April 2015, we will decommission the TestDrive service,” Badcock said.

Badcock said, “Amazon customers would continue to see applications that are currently using TestDrive service which is promoted in the Appstore, but without TestDrive functionality.”

Amazon has introduced the ‘try-before-you-buy’ feature for the customers in March 2011. The tech experts considered the feature as a clever way to entice more customers and raise more sales of its apps.

The company hasn’t broken out the figures for revealing exactly how much usage of its TestDrive feature had tumbled.

Test Drive was began as a browser-based emulator for Android apps of Amazon. The company eventually allowed use of Test Drive its customers from within the Appstore app.

FAA awards EAC to Amazon for drone experiments on delivery services

March 21, 2015 By Stephanie James

Online retailing giant Amazon has received green signal from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for conducting future experiments on its ambitious drone package delivery services.

The regulatory authority granted an Experimental Airworthiness Certificate (EAC) to Amazon on March 19 after which the company is allowed to conduct more research work into its ambitious drone project.

During the research, the company will explore whether drone can be deemed as an effective and potentially viable delivery system.

After the EAC-accreditation, Amazon Logistics division can carry out experiment with the unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) that the company will be using for the purpose of research and development as well as crew training.

The rules guiding the drone experiments are set by the FAA under EAC. These rules include:

  • Provisions that the drones should remain within visual line-of-sight of the pilot as well as the observer.
  • All flight operations should be conducted at 400 feet or below during the day-time and in good weather conditions.
  • A pilot having a minimum of a certificate of a private pilot along with current healthy medical certification should flow the drone experiments under EAC.

Under the EAC, the federal authority has also asked Amazon to provide monthly data on regular basis to the agency which will include reports, such as pilot duty time per flight, the number of flights conducted, any deviations from air traffic controllers’ instructions, unusual hardware or software malfunctions, and any unintended loss of communication links.

FAA spokesperson Alison Duquette said that the agency has so far granted permission to 48 other projects intended to use drones or similar designs of unmanned aircraft for performing various tasks in the United States.
