Amy’s Kitchen announces massive recall of spinach-containing products

Amy’s Kitchen has announced a large-scale recall of its products containing spinach over fears of contamination with listeria monocytogenes.

According to the company, the massive recall will be affecting 73,897 cases of products including organic spinach.

The company was forced to recall the products on a large-scale after one of its spinach suppliers notified about possible contamination of the products with Listeria monocytogenes.

The consumption of contaminated products can cause foodborne illness of listeriosis.

Among the products recalled include: tofu scrambles, gluten-free and regular lasagnas, brown rice, spinach pizzas, vegetable bowls and enchiladas.

The names of the affected products with their lot codes and manufacturing dates have been posted on the official website of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The possibly contaminated products are being recalled from the United States and Canada.

Meanwhile, the company has said that they have not received any complaints of illness linked with the potential listeria contamination.

Amy’s Kitchen has also asked the affected consumers to either dispose their products safely or visit the store to return it and claim a refund or exchange. The consumers can also contact Amy’s at 707-781-7535 for any further resistance.

The health officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says listeriosis can be acquired through the intake of contaminated food, mainly uncooked vegetables and meat, some cooked or processed foods and unpasteurized dairy.

Some of the symptoms of listeriosis include diarrhea, nausea, headache, stomach pain and fever. It can prove to be fatal in certain cases, especially in the highly vulnerable group that includes people with weakened immune systems, young children, elderly and pregnant women.
