Apple’s iOS 9 leaks reveal biggest secret features

June 6, 2015 By Jeff Suchon 1 Comment

iOS-9Apple’s IOS 9 has been leaked. This leak has listed off a couple of features and it’s enough to grab your attention, but it doesn’t capture the full spectrum of what the IOS 9 is capable of.

Some of the features leaked are Force Touch, Apple Home, and Proactive. The Force Torch is described as a pressure sensitive response that when a former touch is made, new options pop up. These options can be a video, camera or even easier navigation. Proactive is going to contextually aware information after having access to your Contacts, Calendar, Siri.  This will do things as serve up a boarding pass ahead of flight, map out directions to an impending meeting and more. The Apple Home is going to unite all of Apple’s HomeKit devices.

iOS 9 will also have eye pleasing visuals, it doesn’t mean it is having a radically different look from iOS 8, but do expect it to be better on eye. That’s because a new font called San Francisco is tipped to replace the widely criticized Helvetica Neue introduced in iOS 7.

With these features it is believed that the iOS is now every bit as mature in many ways, more important than OS X and is bedrock for the Apple’s next wave of endeavors.

Experts are hoping that iOS 9 would allow an easier transition of third party keyboards. In iOS 8 it was noted that when the option was available it didn’t work as well as they wanted it to. They say that if Apple has a way to make using keyboards easier in iOS 9, it would make it much easier to send messages faster.

Other Experts wish that iOS 9 would allow then to delete some of Apple’s stock apps such as Apple Watch. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that Apple will give users the power to delete it stock apps.

While some of the iOS 9 features have been leaked, it is unknown if Apple is going to reveal more of what’s already known.

Google Maps embarrassed again: Android robot seen urinating on Apple logo

In another incident of map spam, search engine company Google Inc. had to meet with an embarrassment again when its one of the most popular services, Google Maps, showed an inappropriate third-party generated image of the Android robot urinating on the official logo of the rival company Apple Inc.

According to the reports, a small region in Pakistan was edited to make the disgraceful changes in the maps.

Currently, Google allows users to add and edit maps, just like Wikipedia, through a crowd-sourced program called Google Map Maker.

The user-generated image appeared as a green land region just south of Rawalpindi in Pakistan.

The image appeared on both Android and desktop versions of Google for a few hours on Friday till it was finally removed by the company.

The image was also accompanied by a digital mischief art creation that featured a sad face along with a message “Google review policy is crap”.

Extending apology for the inapt content, Google spokesperson Caroline Matthews said, “We’re sorry for this inappropriate user-created content; we’re working to remove it quickly. We also learn from these issues, and we’re constantly improving how we detect, prevent and handle bad edits.”

“The vast majority of users who edit our maps provide great contributions, such as mapping places that have never been mapped before,” Matthews added.

This is not for the first time when any user-generated inappropriate content on the Google Maps has brought embarrassment for the search engine giant. Recently, Edward Snowden appeared on the Google Maps sitting in the White House. The Google Map also showed a snowboard shop, called “Edward’s Snow Den”, inside the American President’s residence. It was accompanied by reviews such as it was a “great source of classified information”.

IBM and Apple team up for cloud based health care system

April 15, 2015 By Jeff Suchon Leave a Comment

IBM_WatsonThe new project is to create a computational model which will link the computers that are holding medical information.

IBM is the main player in creating that cloud and will be using its Watson artificial intelligence.

The effort is to use new, innovative system to keep the data secure.

“We are convinced that by the size and scale of what we’re doing we can transform this industry, I’m convinced that now is the time.” says John Kelley, Senior Vice President, IBM Research.

IBM is making two acquisitions regarding the new project, one company has medical records and the other company provides feedback to doctors and patients for follow up care.

It is also making partnership with Apple, Johnson & Johnson and Medtronic.

Apple will help in integrating Watson based apps into heathKit and researchkit tool for developers, to allow the in collection of personal health data and use of data in clinical trials

Johnson & Johnson help in creating a personal concierge service to prepare patients for knee surgery.

Medtronic will help in creating Internet of Things around its medical gadgets, collecting data for patients and personal use.

IBM will help in linking the old electronic record system with the cloud based architecture.

There is also a need for data science which can parse the information created by every patient.

The integration of the sources of data and analyzing them is a major thing; if the system can do that then it will definitely improve the health care system.

“Does this do that tomorrow? No. But do we need to create the infrastructure to do that? Yes. And are they probably the best-positioned company with the best track record to do this? I think so,” said Robert Wachter, the author of The Digital Doctor: Hope, Hype, and Harm at the Dawn of Medicine’s Computer Age and associate chair of medicine UCSF.

Swiss watch makers are now into smartwatches

March 21, 2015 By Carrie Davis

smartwatchesThe challenge posed by the smart watch makers and companies like Apple Inc is finally accepted by the Swiss watchmakers after ignoring it for years. It is a marketing tactic where they have ignored to embrace the wearable revolution.

Deloitte reported that 44% of the Swiss watch company executives have understood that the nest big thing would be smartwatches.

To compete with Apple’s smart watch the Swiss smartwatch project and TAG Heuer are collaborating with Google Inc and Intel.

Apple is setting its legs in more expensive ranges like the gold watches where they are priced at more than $1000 and this is potentially not a risk to small watchmakers.

According to Deloitte, Swiss watch makers have explained that watch of 2015 is a steel chronograph which is prized at 5,000 francs. If the customer behavior is seen in the past few years it came out that they prefer steel over the gold.

The main problem is not that they are facing any loss in the low cost category watches. Swiss is using the quartz time watches to attract the first time buyers, like the student or the young professional who will go with this, but the real problem is when their income increases the probability of them going for a costlier watch increases.

Apple working on augmented reality

March 20, 2015 By Dave Smith

AppleApple is venturing into the realms of augmented reality. It is having its own version of Google glass. After Google glass unsuccessful attempt, apple is getting ahead with its own augmented reality. Even though it may take years for the consumers to adopt it.

It is suggested that augmented reality could be the next big thing as Smartphone’s today are.

What is augmented reality? This concept is about transforming digital information into physical world.

This is a technology which can give a better lifestyle by displaying information, providing navigational data.

The company is focused on fashion ware and it’s unclear what format or platform will it use for its product. Apple has hired fashion executives from around the world including former GAP executive, Marcela Aguilar, former CEO of Burberry, Angela Ahrendts and many others.

Other interesting area where augmented technology can be used is in light field technology, which allows digital and real world to merge together through sensors, displays, optics and other things. One such video has recently been released by Magic Leap which has patent s on light field technology.

Apple also has patents on iphone, powered virtual displays, mobile mapping solutions, transparent displays.

However it is doubtful that apple would develop a wearable using augmented reality, as it may be only for the company’s research and would not be made available to public.
