Social networking giant Facebook, which is already serving as a great source of all sorts of user-generated information and content, is expected to partner with several media companies to offer professional news stories on the public forum.
As per the reports, the social website company has clubbed hands with media firms like The New York Times, National Geographic and BuzzFeed in order to begin testing a program that would provide the contents of these news sites on the Facebook forum apart from posting on their own pages.
The reports suggest Facebook is under talks with nearly six news outlets interested in sharing their news items on Facebook directly along with their own websites. They can begin testing the news service in the next few months, according to the reports.
Facebook enjoys an impressive 890 million daily active users (as of December) and 1.4 billion active users on monthly basis.
Market analysts say the new development can help the news companies that are keeping their sites up to take benefits out of the impressive traffic of Facebook, mainly due to the fact that the news sites generate revenue on the basis of advertising.
In simpler terms, more traffic means generation of more revenue.
Facebook has, however, not confirmed the reports and remained unavailable for comment.
