During this year’s Playstation Experience event, the developer Insomniac has made the announcement that the game Ratchet and Clank will launch in April two weeks before the movie. People who went at the event also had the chance to play a demo from the game in order to see if it lives up to the hype.
The new game comes into the franchise of the action-platformer Ratchet and Clank wearing one of best gorgeous graphical designs that the console is capable of. It basically looks like you would be actually playing a movie, not a game. The fuzzy Ratchet moves smoothly through the environment and light shines off of Clanks robotic body in a beautiful manner.
Ratchet and Clank is also not just any remaster or remake of the original game of the series. It borrows features, guns and story elements from all the Ratchet and Clank games, giving users who have not yet touched the franchise an introduction to the series. The game also serves as a small backstory to the movie which will be released on the 29th of April.
The platforming is still perfect and responsive just like the previous installments, even if the new rope swinging mechanics might make new players a bit confused at the start. In the weapons department, the demo has also let players experience the new Pixelator, a gun that makes enemies 8-bit before it kills them. This type of fun gun is similar to how Saints-Row 4 used its famous Dubstep Gun that made enemies dance until they perished.
The Groovitron also made an appearance, distracting enemies with its strobe lights while making them party like there was no tomorrow. All of the weapon effects are also made gorgeous through the intense graphical fidelity which Insomniac managed to squeeze out of the console, making it one of the most beautiful games on the PS4 to date.
Besides being able to play scenes from the movie, players at the Playstation Experience were also able to immerse themselves into the new environments from the planet named Veldin. More information regarding the different areas of the game as well as more gameplay elements will more than likely be released in the coming months prior to the game’s official launch on the 12th of April.
The story of the game segment shown at the event revolved around the partnership between Ratchet and Clank and how they met in the first place.
Because Ratchet and Clank will launch in April two weeks before the movie, gamers are starting to hope that a resurgence of the 3D action-platformer genre is just around the corner. But that will be seen after Ratchet and Clank has been launched, depending on both public acceptance as well as the quality of the game itself.
