Mercedes Benz weighs passengers’ interaction more in driverless sedan

The latest trend in the global automobile sector is to develop the best self-driving cars. Be it search giant Google or auto major Mercedes Benz, every second company is exhausting brain and energy to build an ideal autonomous vehicle.

Mercedes-Benz, which came up with F 015 self-driving concept car, seems to be looking beyond the mechanics of autonomous vehicles in order to explore more about how we’ll interact with them rather than just giving a driverless car.

The current generation cars are designed with the human driver being the centre of attention, along with the passengers who will face forward.

But what will happen and how things will change once a computer is put behind the wheel? In such a scenario, Mercedes-Benz intends to design an autonomous vehicle, while giving priority to how the passengers will interact with the vehicle.

With the launch of S 500 Intelligent Drive vehicle back in 2013 and the presentation of Future Truck 2025 commercial concept in September, Mercedes-Benz has already proven its mettle to build a self-driving car that can move self on public roads.

The German automaker believes that its autonomous sedan concept car, the F 015 Luxury in Motion, is a vehicle that efficiently portrays how would the premium cars look like in the coming times when computer will pick and drop the passengers to their desired locations.

The company premiered the incredible vehicle design at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this year.

According to the auto maker, the role of the vehicle completely changes once it turns autonomous.

An ideal and intelligent autonomous car would be one which gives complete freedom to the passengers to decide whether they want to drive themselves, or want the vehicle to take them to their desired destination under the autonomous mode.

Passengers should be equipped with the ability to interact with the car through gesture control or screen touch and eye-tracking.

Mercedes-Benz’s concept car has an amazing feature of variable seating system. The vehicle has four rotating lounge chairs that would allow the passengers to easily converse with each other while enjoying the “mobile living space” during their journey.
