It’s cozy when, in winter time, you wrap yourself in a warm blanket and enjoy the chill of the season. But too much chill is bad for your health, and it seems that temperature is dropping and the Nest thermostat stopped working due to a glitch in the system.
Thermostats are built for the comfort of the user. You get home, you want to warm up, and you increase the temperature on your thermostat. If you go away, or you’re feeling flushed, you decrease it. It’s what they were designed and built for.
But we live in an age when you can’t just be expected to push a button mounted on a wall. We have apps for almost everything, why not a smart thermostat that can be controlled with your phone via the internet. You can adjust the temperature while leaving for home and thus avoiding those extra minutes of waiting for the temperature to rise.
The Nest thermostat does just that. The Google-owned device can be accessed with an application installed on the user’s smartphone. The app allows the person using it to control the thermostat even from outside the house because the devices are connected via the internet.
This all sounds good, but unfortunately, the temperature is dropping and the Nest thermostat stopped working. This inconvenience was caused by a faulty update of the program which led to the depletion of the power sources. Because the batteries were almost dead, the device was malfunctioning, not warming the houses or the water in them.
The malfunction pushed angry technological enthusiasts to resort to the ultimately complain method. They started ranting out the system on social media. But the problem wasn’t just the cold that matched the inside the houses with the outside. Owners were concerned that due to the cold the water could freeze in the pipes and burst.
It seems that smart devices took a serious blow with the Nest thermostat, users deciding to go “vintage” and use the old thermostat that allowed them to keep warm and have a bath whenever they wanted. The future can wait until it’s a little warmer outside.
Besides the fact that it could be controlled from afar, the Nest thermostat has another handy function. It can be able to learn the user’s schedule and preferences and turn itself on and off according to the studied routine. It’s like the house warms herself when you’re about to come home.
This all seems great, but the temperature is dropping and the Nest thermostat stopped working. Let’s hope Google will make the next update far less battery hungry, or else more and more users will turn back to the old, reliable, manual thermostat.
