One of the best feature have been released by TiVo to public from its DVR – unifies, cross-platform search.
This feature will allow the user to search for their favorite TV shows, finding out exactly what platforms have those shows.
Even those who aren’t TiVo subscribers will be able to use the search feature, simply having to enter the ZIP code to find out what TV shows are available in their area.
Tom Rogers, TiVo President and CEO said, “The tools available today to find what viewers most want to watch across all sources of programs are not comprehensive, not personalized, or are difficult to use. There just isn’t a great way to hone in on exactly what you care about and are most interested in – until now with TiVo Online.”
The search feature will allows the users to search catalogs from the likes of Amazon Prime, Netflix, Vudu, Hulu Plus, Youtube and many more. But, the actual subscribers of TiVo will find the feature to be more useful because they can use it to create and modify OnePass passes or transfer these passes from a TiVo DVR to another TiVo DVR. The users can also use the website to manage what shows are recorded in future.
Rogers said, “Realizing the compelling aspects of TiVo’s service integrated right into their TV set and traditional viewing experience – along with the many other features of the TiVo service, such as viewing from any screen no matter where you are – we hope will inspire new viewers to become TiVo subscribers.”
TiVo Online will also allow users of Roamio and Premier DVR to stream recordings on laptop or desktop computer, but only if that computer is connected to the same network as the DVR. While it is not as handy as being able to stream anywhere, it will help users who might want to watch a show from their bed or in their kitchen while they make dinner.
TiVo has mobiles apps for both Android and iOS, these apps offer faster performance than the TiVo Online website, as well as larger set of features for subscribers to the service. These features will allow the user to stream recorded videos both inside and outside the house, and also to download recording to a mobile device for offline viewing.
These features will entice users who are considering going the DVR route, and will greatly increase TiVo subscribers
