On Wednesday two top Ukrainian officials were arrested on corruption charges and led away in handcuffs from a cabinet meeting.
Sergiy Bochkovsky, director of Ukraine’s emergency services ministry, and his deputy Vasyl Stoyetsky were accused of high level corruption.
Arsen Ayakov interior minister said that they were suspected of siphoning funds to an offshore haven.
“This will happen to everyone who breaks the law and sneers at the Ukrainian state” said the Ukraine Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
Prime Minister also issued a warning to other officials suspected of corruption.
He further added, “When the country is at war and when we are counting every penny, they steal from the people and the state.”
President Petro Poroshenko announced the dismissal of powerful oligarch Igor Kolomoisky from his post as regional governer in the industrial region of Dnipropetroysk following a dispute over the control of main state oil and Gas Company.
The arrest came soon after the regional governor’s dismissal.
International Monetary fund or IMF has approved to give $17.5 billion as rescue package to Ukraine to cope up with its war crises and laid down conditions that Ukraine should soon fight out corruption and tackle oligarchs.
