pfizerPfizer’s one of the major drug was accused to cause birth defects, but it has proven that the accusations were not true, and the company can now take deep breathe.

The drug which was accused of causing birth defects is Pfizer’s Zoloft antidepressant; it is one the US most popular mood altering drug.

Zoloft is the drug which is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). From group of antidepressant drug Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) Zoloft is one of the them and it is widely prescribed.

The drug is used by pregnant women who are experiencing depression.

The report of the first U.S. trial on the drug showed that the drug is not causing birth defects in children born from women who have taken the drug during pregnancy.

Kristyn Pesante believed that the drug is responsible for her child’s health condition and had claimed that the company purposefully didn’t reveal the side effects of the drug in order to get higher sales.

The trail was conducted in St. Louis, Missouri and the conclusion was revealed after a week.

Pesante was not just only asking for compensation but she was also asking for disciplinary action to be taken against the company.

It is not only Pesante in the line but there are many other lawsuits against the pharma giant because the drug has caused birth defects in children born from women who took the drug during pregnancy. one defect seen was cardiac among other birth defects.

The trial which was held last Friday was the most important trail as it was the first case selected and also it represented the sufferings of mothers.

Pfizer presented other similar medical evidences and theories and the company was neglecting other cases which aroused across the nation.

In 2012, the issue was first taken to the court; Pesanta said that she has taken the drug during her first trimester as Pfizer claimed that Zoloft is the best treatment for pregnant women who are experiencing depression and the risk of side effects from this drug is least among all the other drugs which are used for the same purpose.

She said she was not aware of the risk at that time.

Ibrance, Pfizer breast cancer drug shows impressive results

April 16, 2015 By Dave Smith Leave a Comment

pfizerPfizer’s breast cancer drug, Ibrance clinical trial was delayed due to some efficacy issues based on the assessment of independent Data Monitoring Committee (DMC), but after the issues have been solved the clinical trial was continued.

Ibrance also known as palbociclib, the breast cancer drug is undergoing phase 3 study called PALOMA-3 trial and it has met its primary ends and showed improvements in Progression-Free Survival of PFS.

The drug was used in combination with AstraZeneca Plc’s Faslodex or fulvestrant, a widely used drug to block estrogen.

The trial was successful as the patients taking Ibrance with fulvestrant has far better results in disease progression than those taking fulvestrant alone.

The study enrolled patients whose breast cancer had estrogen-receptor positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (ER+/HER2-)

“The results of this trial are especially important because they help us understand the potential of Ibrance to improve outcomes in patients with this difficult to treat cancer. We’re gratified to be able to stop the trial early,” said DR. Mace Rothenberg, senior vice president of Clinical Development and Medical Affairs and chief medical officer for Pfizer Oncology.

Ibrace drug was able to delay the progression of the drug more effectively when compared to Novartis AG Femara drug.

Pfizer is waiting for the decision of regulatory boards regarding the new breast cancer drug.

Chris Schott, a JPMorgan Chase & Co. said that the Ibrance will make huge sale in the market as the successful clinical trial will give an edge to the drug, which will make it successful in market.

Pfizer is going to make $5B with its new breast cancer drug, says analyst.

Other companies are working on developing a drug that can block cyclin-dependent kinase 4 and 6, a treatment for breast cancer.

Ibrance works by blocking cyclin-dependent kinase 4 and 6.
