It’s simple and stylish design makes the new app a pleasure to use, either through spamming stickers or asking someone to help you in a Destiny raid
After letting their player base use stickers when chatting to their PSN friends earlier this year, PlayStation launches a new smartphone messaging app for PSN users, allowing for a smoother conversation to take place while playing your favorite game.
Until now, if you got a message during your playtime, you had to enter a separate application on your PS4 in order to reply, forcefully breaking your immersion into said game. True you can still do that, but by having your phone near you when that happens, you will no longer have to pause your game in order to respond.
This is a similar move to that of Facebook, when it launched its messaging component as a stand-alone application for smartphones in order to achieve a greater ease-of-access. Even if Facebook’s move was met with a lot of criticism from the public at large, up until now, the application has proven to be rather profitable.
By eliminating the need of going through the main console program in order to send short messages to your PSN friends, Sony hopes to bring a more enjoyable experience to the console. Add to this the fact that from now on it will be much easier to see which of your friends is looking for a playmate or a party, this app will more than likely have a great success.
The only drawback that this new PlayStation Messages service brings along with it is the need of installing said app on your phone. Taking into account the simplicity of said process, when compared to the benefits it provides, the sacrifice is worth the effort.
The PlayStation Messages will allow you to add new contacts in an easier fashion, as well as use their previously launched PlayStation themed stickers and images. The main smartphone PlayStation App will still provide its users ways through which they can control their console downloads and use Remote Play with their PS4.
The messaging app itself looks a lot like the Facebook Messaging app, making the switch extremely non-invasive for those opting to use it in order to chat with other PSN users. It has to be noted that this new application launched by Sony does not hope to compete with other messaging services.
It is simply launched in order to create a much more consumer-friendly environment, further cementing the idea that PlayStation’s motto of “Live in your world. Play in ours.” stands for.
Because PlayStation launches a new smartphone messaging app for PSN users, users will be able to play in the world which PlayStation creates through their games, without being constantly bothered to reply to messages while gaming. By simply using the aforementioned app, players will be able to chat with their friends without pausing their favorite games, creating a much more friendly environment for PlayStation users worldwide.
