Listeria contamination made Sabra recalled 30,000 hummus cases

April 10, 2015 By Stephen Kenwright Leave a Comment

sabraSabra, the popular dip maker late Wednesday announced that they are recalling all the 30,000 cases of humus dip as they are potentially contaminated by Listeria.

Listeria is a food born bacterial illness. This infection is very serious for people with weak immune system and also for pregnant women

Listeria infection is mostly contracted by eating improperly processed meat and unpasteurized milk products.

Listeria bacteria can survive refrigeration even at freezing point.

Some of the symptoms are splitting headaches, fever, diarrhea, nausea, severe abdominal pain.

This is the second recall of food products because of listeria. Earlier Blue Bell Creameries has to recall large quantity of ice-cream after it was tested positive for listeria.

The company had to recall because the U.S. Food and Drug Administration during a routine check found that the one of the containers tested positive for Listeria Mononcytogenes.

The officials said that they are no cases of people infected from listeria have been reported.

The company recalled classic hummus that comes in 10-ounce, 17-ounce, 23-ounce, 30-ounce and 32-ounce cases and it makes 5 brands out of the total 60 brands available.

Company has released a statement in which they mentioned that they have recalled the products and they also state that other products are safe to eat.

The company said to the customers to throw away the affected product they bought or they can return them to their place of purchase for full refund.

It will cost a lot to Sabra as it did to Blue Bell Creameries.
