Platinum Officially Announced Their New TMNT Game

The game trailer is out

After a long string of rumors and leaks, Platinum officially announced their new TMNT game that is due to arrive at some point later this year. For the past month, news have started swirling around about the possibility of a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game. It was even more pronounced when stills leaked online.

It was only a matter of time before Activision and Platinum made the official announcement. In a similar fashion as the stills, the trailer first leaked on the official Xbox website, as predicted. A few hours later, it launched everywhere, and gave us a glimpse into the game’s potential.

The upcoming game will be titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan and is set to release in 2016. The trailer, be it cinematic or gameplay, seems to hold true to the cell-shaded, high contrast, and animated style that is a reminder of the old comic books. Some would question the design of the nose that is a frightening reminder of Michael Bay’s live action movie, but that’s no reason to lose hope.

Platinum have shown themselves capable of taking a beloved series and turning it into a decent game, like Transformers. Some would argue that it’s also another franchise that Michael Bay has, unfortunately, did little justice to. However, perhaps Platinum and Activision plan a true revival, a TMNT game that will return us to our childhood cartoons and comic books. The style certainly matches.

The trailer boasts some exciting gameplay in terms of co-op. It has already been announced that players will be able to play in teams of four. Connecting online, they will be able to stand in the roles of Michelangelo, Raphael, Leonardo, and Donatello, fighting off Shredder and his Foot Clan. If anything, for every gamer out there that used to play Ninja Turtles with their friends as kids, perhaps this will be a beautiful way to transfer that into the digital world.

The fighting will likely be in Platinum’s trademark combat style, fast placed with special maneuvers that look potentially exciting for multiplayer. It could be a good one, and it’s likely in the hopes of fans of the series that Activision and Platinum will bring forth a successful and high quality TMNT game. At this point, it’s due.

The upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan has no official release date set. It’s only suggested to launch in 2016, but will cover all major platforms. The game will be available on the PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
