Sunny has recently made headlines when he was discovered hanging from a tree with a rope around her mouth in Tuscon, Arizona by an anonymous good Samaritan.
Sunny, a female shepherd mix is recovering in a nearby foster home,
José Ocaño, director of shelter operations for the Pima Animal Care Center in Tucson said that Sunny has begun to slowly recover and is currently being cared for by a local foster parent.
Ocaño said, “She’s getting her spirit back. Even the look in the eye looks more trusting and hopeful, which is a testament to how resilient animals are.”
Ocaño said that Sunny’s story has grabbing attention not only from all over the United States but across the globe.
Thousands of dollars are donated to aid her recovery.
The Pima Animal Care Center is posting updates on Sunny’s health and also its pictures on Facebook page. Numerous postings on the page have received over 1,000 likes.
The PACC team wrote on Facebook, “We’ve received many calls about the dog we rescued yesterday from the desert, where she’d been hung from a tree and left to die.”
“We’ve named her Sunny, because we must believe her days are getting brighter,”
Sunny’s foster parent wrote, “Sunny seems to be getting better and better, she was feeling well enough to jump on my bed this morning!”
“She sleeps in the sun, she sniffs the kitties, and she goes potty (this last one is actually a BIG deal),”
“All is well in Sunny’s foster home – WHEW! We couldn’t be happier for everyone’s favorite girl.”
The total cost of Sunny’s medical expenses is approximately $2,500.
The additional fund generated will be used to support a number of other animals that are currently residing at the county animal shelter.
The care center is housing 300 cats and 650 dogs daily and they have small budget.
The authorities are trying to obtain information regarding the original owner of Sunny. Sunny was not ever micro-chipped.
It seems that Sunny was neglected for some time prior to her being found hanging from the tree.
