A teenager has been arrested and accused of having killed Amanda Blackburn, an Indianapolis pastor’s pregnant wife.
The announcement has been made on Monday morning, by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), just a few days after police released footage captured by surveillance cameras, showing the suspect leaving the crime scene.
18-year old Larry Taylor was apprehended at a relative’s residence, and taken into custody by police officers from IMPD’s gang and violent crime unit, who had been assisted in their investigation by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Preliminary charges of murder have been laid against him, and there will be additional charges issued on Monday by the Marion County Prosecutors Office.
Authorities have also arrested Jalen Watson and Diano Gordan, given that the men had been filmed by surveillance cameras in the neighborhood, when the fatal home invasion took place.
So far, Watson and Gordan have been accused of having violated their parole, and it appears they were also involved in burglaries and rapes at Westlake Apartments alongside Taylor.
Moreover, officials believe the two suspects might have acted as accomplices to the shooting that shocked the local Indianapolis community on November 10.
At the time when the violent crime took place, Davey Blackburn, who serves as pastor at Resonate Church, had gone to the gym, leaving his pregnant wife Amanda alone at their Northwestside home with their 15-month toddler, Weston.
Shortly afterwards, at around 6:45 .m. Larry Taylor, who apparently had already robbed a neighbor’s house, allegedly entered their residence, believing it had been empty.
Upon encountering Amanda, he sexually assaulted her, shot her in the head, and fled the scene. In the meantime, Watson and Gordan had also been aiding him, by taking money out from an ATM using Blackburn’s credit card, as evidenced by the fact that receipts pertaining to that transaction have been found by police in their vehicle.
When the victim’s husband returned, he was shocked to discover what had happened in his absence. He immediately called 911, and shortly afterwards police officers and paramedics were dispatched to the 2800 Sunnyfield Court residence.
The pregnant woman who was found unresponsive and in critical condition was promptly transported to the hospital. However, there was no possibility to save her life, because of the severity of her injuries.
Eventually, she was taken off life support at the Indiana University Health Methodist hospital, and pronounced dead two days following the assault, after her organs had been harvested.
Amanda Blackburn had been 12 weeks pregnant, and although she hadn’t been told what gender her baby would be, her intuition kept telling her that it was a girl. The couple was planning to name their newborn Everett Grace, the middle name being the same as Amanda’s.
It is hoped that following the arrest the grieving family will now get to experience some closure, following this horrific incident which caused the death of a beloved mother and wife.
As Davey Blackburn explained, those who knew his wife are still struggling to comprehend what has happened, given that Amanda was instantly liked by everyone.
It would’ve been impossible to imagine that her final moments would be so violent and painful, and it’s hard not to consider it unfair that something so horrid has happened to such a kind-hearted and caring person.
