Be sure to get popcorn and stay tuned for the video extravaganza that comes with the Facebook vs. YouTube war
As Facebook announces its intention to introduce a video library to its platform, the Facebook vs YouTube video war just got interesting, because such a move has the potential to even things out between the two media giants.
For the last few years, Facebook has been working tirelessly on the video section of its platform. And so, from no video content on its platform whatsoever, it has reached a record number of views in just two short years. Its rapid progression was backed by a tremendous effort from its video team, that has come up with a great many tools and features to make people accept video content on the platform at first and then to actually make the experience as pleasureful as possible for the users.
And as the success of its video content kept getting bigger and bigger, it became apparent that the ultimate goal that the company had set for itself was one of epic proportions. Facebook’s intention has been to dethrone video sharing mogul YouTube all along, and despite the fact that this seemed a laughable matter at first, nobody is laughing at their 4 billion daily views now.
Throughout the course of this Facebook vs YouTube competition, there was one thing that has been keeping YouTube virtually untouched and that was the format advantage it had over Facebook. While Facebook has stuck to its representative feed format, YouTube has also kept its database form, thus ensuring that viewers rely on it for searching their desired content.
It was precisely the fact that Facebook did not have a search engine of its own that provided YouTube with its undeniable advantage. But all of that is about to change, as Facebook reveals the major feature for which it has been leaving breadcrumb signs ever since its beginnings in the video market. By adding a Media Library to its platform, Facebook could actually earn the advantage because its platform will not only offer a search engine for users, but also the news feed that integrates strong, authoritative video content.
“(…)we’re excited to introduce (…) and a new Video Library. The enhanced video upload flow gives page owners customized distribution options for videos on Facebook, while the new Video Library is a simple, centralized place to manage videos.” says Facebook project manager Anaid Gomez-Ortigoza.
This will be a major blow for YouTube, provided that the media library reaches a reasonable complexity in due time. But taking into account that Facebook has made its goal to make its video content as similar as possible to YouTube’s, there is a very strong chance that its Media Library will also be YouTube-like in the best possible way.
Therefore, it will be quite an interesting experience to see what users are going to choose. On one hand, they will have YouTube, which they have been using for the last ten years and that has earned its spot as the go to place for video content. But on the other hand, they will have Facebook, that they already spend quite a lot of time on, that will hopefully offer similar features.
And this could actually go both ways, because it will be quite an intricate matter to make viewers change their ten-year-old habit of playing videos on YouTube. But with the right advertisement, it might actually be done. And if there ever was an adventurous thrill loving platform to take on such a bold challenge, that is Facebook.
As for YouTube, the video giant is standing its ground for the moment and working on amazing future prospective plans for extending its market. The best project that YouTube is almost ready to launch is YouTube Gaming that is meant as an all-gaming video database, so that gamers can find the exact content they are looking for without having to look through non-gaming videos along the way. Users are looking forward to YouTube Gaming, as it will unite computer game aficionados on the same giant platform, so that they may share their preferred information more easily.
It remains to be seen how this Facebook vs YouTube war will play out in the future, but it is bound to be a very thrilling ride, so stay tuned and enjoy all the video goodies that will come your way, as spoils of war have never been better.
