Tiktoker Alyssa (@alyssascleaningcompany) shared a simple trick for checking the cleanliness of a hotel room on social networks. Her trick, called the “paper towel test”, involves spraying the surface around the toilet with some type of liquid and wiping it down with a piece of paper towel.
As the young woman shows the camera, the result of the test is a completely black and even hairy paper. “That's why I have trust issues,” she concludes in the video. A simple but effective trick for quickly assessing the cleanliness of a hotel room.
In addition to this viral tip, there are other tricks that don't involve doing a test of this type.

By consulting other travellers' hotel reviews, you can quickly find out if the cleanliness leaves something to be desired. If several reviews mention that cleanliness is not up to scratch, it's best to look for another option.
Another indicator of the cleanliness of a hotel room is the bathroom. If surfaces such as the mirror, door handle or light switches are free of fingerprints, this can be a sign that the hotel takes cleanliness seriously. Also, the absence of hair on the bathroom floor is a good indicator of the cleanliness of the room.
To avoid unpleasant surprises, it's advisable to bring your own sheets if possible. Otherwise, it's best to remove the bedspread as soon as possible, as it is rarely changed between guests. The pillows available in the closet are usually washed, so it's best to use them rather than those already on the bed.
Finally, it's important to trust your senses. If something seems wrong, it's best to report it to reception. It is advisable to request another room or ask for unsatisfactory areas to be cleaned again. If no satisfactory solution is offered, it is possible to request a refund or lodge a complaint with the hotel chain's head office.
