Uber celebrates National Cat Day by making kitty deliveries to offices in more than 50 cities in the United States and Canada.
While the complete list of places where these special orders can be made is displayed in Uber’s newsroom, it must be noted that most of the American public will have the opportunity to take part in this highly anticipated event.
The special promotion is only available today, and it allows Uber users to play with kittens and even adopt them, thanks to a partnership between the popular taxi-hailing company and local animal shelters and humane societies.
Those interested in participating in this campaign need only use the Uber app, and access the #UberKITTENS promotion.
Some of the kitties can be viewed online in advance, and users can also read humorous descriptions of their skills and “qualifications”, which recommend them as the perfect addition to the family.
The offer will only be active for a limited time, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m, and customers can even receive a reminder on their mobile phones, so as to request their kitten at the ideal time.
In order to participate, one most pay a $30 sum, known as a “snuggle fee”, and make sure that an enclosed space is available, for the cat to play in.
In addition, one should also seek permission for bringing the furry friend to the office, and ensure that no one in the vicinity is allergic to cats.
While the offer isn’t limited to workplaces only, it most be noted that the majority of shelters taking part in this event prefer this type of delivery.
The kittens included in this promotion can either be played with for a brief period of 15 minutes, or they can actually become a permanent addition to the client’s life.
In most of the participating cities, the cats are eligible for adoption, just like last year when around 30 felines have found a new home thanks to this campaign.
“UberKITTENS is about connecting cat lovers with kittens in a fun way, that also helps these adorable animals find caring, lifelong homes”, declared Uber spokesperson Michael Amodeo.
Given that it is expected that demand will be quite high since the offer is for a limited time only, company representatives tell those who won’t be able to take part in today’s celebration not to feel too discouraged.
Uber has listed the main animal shelters which are its partners in today’s promotion, and it is possible to visit those facilities at any given date, and adopt a kitten in person.
According to the ASPCA, approximately 3.4 million cats reach pounds every year, and just 37% of them are adopted, while 41% of them have to be euthanized, and just 5% return to their prior owners.
Therefore, rescuing a kitten by adopting it seems like the best solution to mark National Cat Day, and to curb the upsetting and widespread trend of mercy killing identified in animal shelters nationwide.
