United Airlines has announced that it will be introducing a new fare option, the Basic Economy, which will start being used beginning next year and should help both the passengers and the company.
The new fares offer was announced earlier this week, on Tuesday, and has reportedly been in the workings for a number of months now.
According to the United Airlines, the Basic Economy offer should ensure the cheapest transport as it will target the less costly seats on the plane.
United Airlines, which is a Chicago-based company, is just one amongst the several other airlines to join the offering of cheaper travel options from bigger companies.
Low-cost airlines such as Frontier and Spirit Airlines are the usual traveling method of the price-conscious passengers.
Bigger companies such as Delta Air Lines and American Airlines have announced current or future plans for basic economy fares traveling costs in some market areas.
Still, the United Airlines new Basic Economy pricing offer should come to be beneficial for both the company and its customers.
The company could come to benefit from a rise in revenues determined by the new fares and also more controlled costs which are estimated to reach a $4.8 billion sum by 2020.
The economy class customers will also benefit from the newest offer, even besides the cheaper prices. Both basic and regular economy tickets passengers will not be charged for their soft drinks and will not be getting smaller seats.
Basic economy tickets without an elite status will, however, have a number of limitations. One of them is the fact that passengers will not be offered a carry-on full-sized bag space, instead, their storage space will be the space beneath the seat.
Also, when compared to the economy tickets, the basic economy will not offer a refund or change option and will also not come with a book a seat in advance option.
The basic economy tickets will not be included in the frequent flier program offered by United. As such, the miles traveled with a basic economy seat will not be added to the overall miles count.
That is not to say that such travelers will not get a bonus from such a travel method. Basic economy miles will contribute and be gathered so as to be redeemed for future flights.
United Airlines also declared, during the same announcement, that it is considering introducing a new class, the premium economy. This option would be made available for both the national and international travel routes.
United also announced that the Polaris business class, which will be used on international flights, will be made available starting with December 1.
The Basic Economy option will start being used in January for the flight scheduled for the early second quarter. The fares plan will be available for domestic flights and also a number of shorter routes which fly from the United States to Latin America.
