A Vermont court is currently reviewing the details in the case of Erika Guttilla, a 31-year-old Burlington resident, who fatally shot her 35-year-old live-in boyfriend and hid his corpse in a garbage bin before dumping it in the woods. The Vermont woman told the authorities that the man manipulated her family members by feeding them drug and that he often drank and raped her.
Vermont Woman Aided by Mother and Ex-Boyfriend to Hide Cadaver
On Tuesday, an attorney speaking on behalf of Erika Guttilla asked permission to review the facts in the woman’s rather bizarre murder case. Guttilla was arrested earlier this month and charged with first-degree murder. Several other persons, including the Vermont woman’s mother and a former boyfriend, were charged in the case.
According to court documents, Guttilla shared her parents’ Highgate house with 35-year-old Troy Ford of Brooklyn.
The woman told the investigators that her relationship with Ford was no bed of roses, as the individual was manipulative and inclined towards physical violence.
Ford’s murder came soon after the Vermont woman realized that he manipulated her entire family with drugs. More than that, the woman told the authorities that Ford made her father into his personal manservant, feeding him drugs to keep the man quiet.
One night prior to the murder, the woman told her mother about her plans of killing Ford. Reportedly, Guttilla’s mother hid a revolved in her daughter’s bedroom.
After killing her abusive boyfriend, the Vermont woman aided by her mother wrapped the body in cellophane and placed it in a garbage bin. The fear of being discovered led Guttilla to call 28-year-old Corey Cassani, the man she was dating since January.
With the help of Cassani, Edward Bennett, her former boyfriend, and her mother, Guttilla stuck Ford’s body inside a van and drove to the woods where they’ve ditched the cadaver.
