Tara Reid Opens Up About Her Hollywood Struggles
Tara Reid was a '90s and '00s teen star who seemed to have it all: a successful career, good looks, and a party lifestyle that fit right in with Hollywood royalty Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. However, the party girl image that the media portrayed took a toll on Reid both personally and professionally, leading her to eventually step away from Hollywood. In a new interview, Reid opened up about why she left, how her choices as an older woman are still being judged, and why she believes the media was unfair in punishing her.
The Unfair Treatment of Tara Reid
Despite not doing anything particularly scandalous or illegal, Reid faced criticism in the media for her partying ways. “I was the first one that started this image of the '00s party girl,” Reid told Mr. Warburton Magazine. “The difference is I never did sex tapes…I never did anything wrong, but what I did get punished for is if I wasn't shooting, I went to Europe right away. I'd be popping bottles, and I had a great time!” This party girl image followed Reid everywhere, leading to rumors about plastic surgery and even a reality show that showed her partying across Europe.
However, the media's portrayal of Reid wasn't just personal – it also hurt her career. “I didn't work for a while. That was really frustrating,” Reid revealed to Entertainment Tonight. “It bothered me that [people thought] I was just a party girl and thought I wasn't anything else because that wasn't true…It didn't make sense to get punished for having fun.” Despite her struggles, Reid has continued to act and produce projects, showing that she still has plenty of love for acting.
Being Judged as an Older Woman
Reid's struggles aren't just limited to her party girl past. As an older woman who isn't married or has children, she's still judged for her life choices. “I'm not married, I don't have kids…and I think, in Hollywood, if you don't have kids or you're not married, you're judged,” she said. “So they still think you're that party girl from 40 years ago.” Reid believes that it's unfair that society still judges women based on their marital or childbearing status and hopes that people will focus on other aspects of her life and career instead.
Despite the challenges she's faced, Reid remains optimistic about her future in Hollywood. “Once it's in your blood, it's always in your blood, you can't help it,” she told Variety. “And no matter what, it's my true love. I love acting.” With her passion for her craft and dedication to creating her own opportunities, there's no doubt that we'll be seeing more of Tara Reid in the future.
